The plane of Wellness the canon most openly admits it has not yet patterned — and flags as a gap rather than filling with confidence.
Two things are held together here, and the tension between them is the honest state of the concept. The first is ordinary: minds suffer, suffering has causes, and a person in distress needs care, company, and often skilled help that the corpus does not supply. The second is a challenge to how the old ordering reads that suffering — that some states it names as pathology have been held by wisdom traditions as passage rather than disorder, and that treating every such state as malfunction can lock a person out of what was trying to happen in them. The canon names this territory as madness as misrecognized initiation, alongside the dark night of the soul, the wounded healer, and the sacred fool — and, unusually, the Pattern Language records its own uncertainty in the entry itself.
It is load-bearing because a Cell will meet it. Over a few seasons, in any group of five to thirteen people, someone will come apart — from Trauma, from grief, from Addiction, from a collapse of meaning, from illness. What the Circle does in that hour is the whole test of the floor of care: when a member is in danger, in body or in mind, the Circle acts first and records later, and no card is more important than the person at the table.
In play, the honest instructions are few and worth having. Stay. Do not isolate — the village gathered around the one who fell, not to seal them off but to hold and to witness. Act on danger without waiting for process. Do not diagnose; a Circle is not a clinic and the Zero Blame Environment does not make it one. Bring in people with the craft, and treat that as care rather than as failure. And do not let a framing that dignifies some states become a reason to withhold help from someone who is drowning.
