Sacrifice
The voluntary offering or surrender of something of value in order to align, uplift, or restore the Whole toward Right Relationship.
The load-bearing word in the canon's definition is voluntary. Sacrifice here is something given, never something extracted, and that single qualifier separates it from every counterfeit. Extraction Of Wealth is named among the Anti-Patterns; The Parasite is what feeds on a commons without contributing; a movement that asks people to give until they are hollow has produced the opposite of what this word means.
Its everyday form in the Game is The Offering: each week each person puts something in the middle of the table — money, food, hours, a skill, whatever is real for them. Nobody sets your amount. A tenth is the old measure and most begin there and grow. Voluntary Tithing carries the same discipline upward: the share flows inward to the table you sit at, never upward to anyone who rules you; there is no centre to tithe to and no imposed percentage.
The canon also names the larger register without romanticising it. Love in its fierce and powerful register, and the Warrior's willing laying down of life, belong to Pillar X; they are held under vows and witness, not under enthusiasm. And the floor beneath everything constrains the whole concept: when a member is in danger, in body or in mind, the Circle acts first and records later — no card is more important than the person at the table. A Game that would let a person be sacrificed to its own procedure has already lost.
In play it is deliberately small and frequent: a weekly act of giving something real, freely, where others can see.
