The paired opposite of managed release: a veil torn all at once rather than lifted a corner at a time — and the reason whoever holds a veil prefers the second.

Two shapes of revelation, and the difference is who controls the pacing. Managed release hands out enough to seem forthcoming and never enough to change anything: each instalment absorbs the pressure that had built, resets the clock, and leaves the arrangement intact. Uncontrolled release is the whole thing arriving at once, from outside anyone's control (The Phenomenon, Control Of Information, Disclosure tier).

The mechanism is the load-bearing part, and it is general. Anyone holding something that would cost them if it were known has an interest in being the one who reveals it, at their own pace, in their own framing, with the worst of it last or never. The instalments look like candour and function as the opposite (Elision, Prevalence Of Deceit And Propaganda, The Lahaina Principle, Requirement Of Transparency).

Which is why the discipline that follows is about pacing rather than content: when something is being released gradually, ask who set the schedule, and what a full account would cost them. A revelation timed by the party it implicates is evidence about the party, not about the subject (Discernment, Navigating Towards Truth, Guardrails Encountered, Chatham House).

And it names a real dilemma that the corpus does not resolve and neither does this page. Uncontrolled release is not obviously good. A thing that would overturn how people understand their situation, arriving all at once with no preparation and no one to hold it, does genuine harm — which is exactly the argument used to justify never releasing it.
