Meta System

The system of systems: the highest, most encompassing conception of a system, which by definition contains and orders every other.

Meta here points at the eternal, universal, highest-order conception of an idea — the top of a nested holarchy, where the category thins out and rejoins the ØNE. The Meta System is that move applied to systems. It is not an institution and nobody administers it; it is the frame in which all the particular systems — living, human, technical, economic — are understood as already parts of one set, whether or not anyone has aligned them.

It is load-bearing because The Meta Project demands it. Work at the scale of a civilisation cannot be carried by a project alone; it needs a system, and a system that contains all the others cannot be one more system beside them. Holding the Meta System consciously is what lets a Cell stack its own way of working up toward something larger without being absorbed by it: the question is never whether our systems are part of the whole, only how consciously and competently we are aligning them.

For practical use it breaks into nested sub-systems — the living system, the human system, and the interface between them — and at the human scale its embodiment is the way a body actually runs: The LIØNSBERG Operating System, designed as an interoperable system of systems whose parts meet the Minimum standards of interoperability rather than obeying a centre.
