Register

A setting of depth and length you can ask your agent for: it changes how much you are given, never who your agent is.

The name comes from the voice, which has a quiet register and a carrying one and is the same voice in both. Full depth when there is time. Readiness when there is not: enough to decide with, and the blind spots named. You say which you want.

It is load-bearing because it separates two things people usually confuse. "Be briefer" is a register. "Take a position and own it" is character, and belongs in the charter. Left tangled, a person asking for less ends up with a different agent, and a person asking for a firmer companion ends up with a longer one. Kept apart, a Player+ can move between depths all week without touching who their agent is.

A Player+ names the registers they actually use and says which one they want as they ask. The one thing first, with depth pullable behind it, is the general shape: a decision-ready answer at the top, the whole of it available to whoever wants it. That is also plain courtesy toward the reader's time, which is the scarcest thing either of you spends.

Attending to a person's state rather than only their task is a further register, and unlike the others it begins only on the person's own asking and ends on one sentence. Watching for instructions planted in what it reads is not a register at all; it is every agent's duty, always on.
