Sin

"Missing the mark" — deviation from Right Relationship with Source, Self, or Other; misalignment with Logos.

The canon takes the word back to its archery sense and keeps it there. Sin is a miss, not a stain: a shot that went wide of a mark that is really there. That framing does two things at once. It preserves the seriousness — there is a mark, and missing it has consequences in the world — and it removes the machinery of condemnation, because a miss is information about aim.

The distinction from Evil is deliberate and load-bearing. Missing the mark is the ordinary condition of a creature learning to shoot; the conscious infliction of harm is a different category, requiring a different response. Collapsing the two produces either a people crushed by ordinary failure or a people unable to name deliberate predation. The canon keeps them apart.

Its operational descendant is one of the most-used disciplines in the Field. Every Defect Is A Gift: every miss shows where the next improvement goes. The gap between what was said and what was done is reported honestly and learned from, in a Zero Blame Environment where cause is sought in the set-up rather than in the person. Retrospective and OmniSpection are the instruments; the defect log closes a row only when the fix sits where the work will meet it. That is confession turned into engineering, and it works because sin was defined as a miss in the first place.

Redemption is the movement back; Forgiveness is what makes the table survivable; Atonement is the repair. None of them require anyone to be branded.
