The Awakening (of the Path)

Becoming present to where one has just landed — the first moves are not about doing, they are about seeing.

Five verbs, in order, and they are the rhythm of every stretch of the Path at every scale. Observe: sense the world as it actually is — the old collapsing, the new rising, people already at work, and yourself, here, now, awake. Orient: find the map, discover what is at stake, and recognise that you are inside The Story of LIØNSBERG and written into it. Decide: choose to play — a choice made not once but made and remade at every threshold. Act: take the first move; gather your Cell, choose your Quest, begin. Learn: every cycle teaches, and whoever walks long enough becomes a guide for the next person crossing.

The sequence is load-bearing because it refuses the two failure modes that meet a new arrival. One is to act before seeing, which produces motion without direction and burns people out in a season. The other is to study indefinitely, which is the most comfortable way of never starting. Observing and orienting are given first and given briefly; deciding comes third and cannot be skipped; acting comes fourth and is small.

It is the same loop the corpus uses everywhere else under other names — discern, plan, do, check, adjust — because tightly coupled learning and action is an irreducible element rather than a technique. That it appears here, at the very beginning of a person's walk, is the point: the loop is not a management tool bolted on later, it is how a Sovereign meets anything.

In the Game the Awakening is the third and fourth stages: orientation, where a person receives the cosmic context and begins to understand what is happening and why now; and gather, where they identify the two or three already sensing the same thing, send the link, and set a date. That last move is recognition rather than organisation. They already know who is ready.
