Doing

Engaging in activity or work in space and time — the active pole paired with Being and Becoming.

Doing is what happens when Intention reaches the hands. The canon differentiates it from Being deliberately and keeps both: Being is the pure essence of existence, Doing is activity in space and time. Neither is the higher one. A life that is all Doing burns out and mistakes motion for direction; a life that is all Being never lands, and the new world is not argued into existence but embodied into it.

The Game is built on Doing at a very small scale and holds it to a very high standard. The fourth of the Twelve Elements of the Pattern is Networks of Commitments, and the weekly move is exact: say what you will do; do what you said; learn from the gap. A Commitment moves could → should → can → will → did, and a WILL is a person's word, consciously given, never inferred. Kept as a share of made is the first number a group should know about itself. That is Doing made accountable without being made cruel: the gap is learned from, not punished, in a Zero Blame Environment.

Doing is also what keeps the metaphysics of this Pillar from becoming ornamental. Praxis is the reciprocal unfolding of knowing and action; Tightly Coupled Learning and Action is the twelfth Element; Learning By Doing is how the Pattern actually lands in a body. What a person practises is what they will produce — the means are the ends — so the quality of the doing is a claim about the world being made, not only about the task.

At the table it is the plainest thing in the Game: one sentence, said aloud, about what you will do this week.
