Nucleus

The total set a Cell carries: the code common to every Cell, and the life that is this Cell's own — kept apart because they change by different hands.

The Seed is the universal half, identical everywhere, arriving by broadcast rather than written locally: the Story, the Way, the Plan, the Kit, the rules of the Game, and the card that carries them in a hand. This is The Golden Seed in the form a Cell actually holds — the whole code, so that no centre is needed for the Cell to live, and no loss of any centre can take what every Cell already contains (The Playcard, Kit of Parts).

The Record is the particular half, written by the Cell's own hand and published upward: its roll, its agreements, its activities, its Quests and commitments, the flames it passed, what it asked and was asked, the weekly page and the season's telling. It is the sign kept as truth — what was said, what was done, the gap, and what was learned (The Record, The Season Sheet).

The two change by different hands, and that is the whole reason for naming them together. The Seed changes by proposal travelling upward and returning to everyone as the next edition at a turning; a Cell edits its own copy only in the rare case it can account for out loud — a translation, a named local adaptation — because a silent local edit is precisely what makes two Cells stop being one game (Submittals, The edition, Proposal). The Record changes only by the hand whose life it is; a larger body seldom writes a smaller one's record, and says why when it does.

The biological witness is exact. Every cell of a body carries the same genome; a liver cell and a neuron differ not in their code but in which of it is expressed and in what each has recorded of its own life. The code of the whole is not rewritten locally; the lineage changes by what is passed on. That is the holofractal law made flesh — the whole in every unique part — and it is why one living Cell can regrow the body (HoloFractal, Self-Sustenance and Self-Replication, Cell Types).
