The Platform (civic)

The shared digital backbone through which the Movement becomes visible to itself — and which is never required.

Its work is threefold. Visibility: people, Cells, and Quests made visible to one another, so that anyone can find their kin, every Cell can find its neighbours, and the whole body can see how it is doing (Cell, Quest, The Movement). Provision: equal access, for everyone who accepts the invitation, to the path of lifelong learning and development and to the tools, solutions, and support of the commons — delivered just in time, in answer to the Quest actually at hand (Commons, Just in time, The Invitation). Flow: the connective tissue for offers and requests, resources and stories, promises made and kept, moving between the parts without passing through any controlling centre (Requests and offers, Fostering Ecosystemic Resource Flows).

Its laws are the laws of everything in the new. Interoperable — each functional part replaceable as technology changes, because the data architecture and the human culture are the constants and the software is not (Interoperability, Technology Sovereignty). Decentralised — no master store; the whole thing downloadable and regrowable by any Cell (The open web, Nucleus, Self-Sustenance and Self-Replication). And never required — it makes the Way faster and wiser, and the Game is played complete with paper, voice, and sky. If the grid goes down, the Movement does not (Screens and paper, Notebook form).

That last law is what distinguishes this from every platform the word usually names. The ordinary platform's business is to become necessary: to hold the data, the identity, the relationships, and the attention, so that leaving is expensive. This one is built to be leavable, which is also what makes it trustworthy (Manufactured Dependency, Hosted service, Data, Off switch).
