HoloFractal

The compound of Holarchy and Fractal: nested wholes that are also self-similar across scales — the word the governance pages actually use.

Two properties are being asserted at once. From Holarchy: each part is a whole in itself and a part of a larger whole, enfolded rather than commanded. From Fractal: the same pattern appears at every scale, so what is learned at one level transfers to the others. Together: each scale is at once a domain, a superorganism of the scales below it, and a subsystem of the scales above it, running the same pattern.

The compound earns its own name because the two properties do different work and are often confused. Nesting without self-similarity gives a layered bureaucracy where each level runs on its own logic. Self-similarity without nesting gives a scatter of identical cells that never compose into a body. HoloFractal insists on both, which is exactly what Holofractal Omnifederation requires: complete wholes, organically federated from the bottom up, every member holding an equal voice in the Whole, with no centre but ØNE.

It is load-bearing for the shape of the body. The canonical nesting runs from the Sovereign through the Cell, the neighbourhood, the village, the Community, the localities, the Ecoregion, the Bioregion, The Planet, The Star System, the Cosmos, and ØNE, with roughly an order of magnitude between adjacent levels and no true bottom or top. Non-geographic bodies — a Guild, a Tribe, a Voluntary Association — nest by the same law. HoloFractal Governance is the governance reading; Holofractal Scaling is the growth reading.

In play it is why the card has the same shape at every level, upper half common and lower half your own — one of the minimum standards that lets ten thousand tables be one game.
