Work Deck
Every Work Card a body holds, as one set — so the Board, each person's own hand, and every dashboard are sorts of the same cards rather than separate lists.
One card per object. The deck is the set. Every view is a sort. That is the whole law, and almost everything else about coordinating work follows from it.
A body's work is many pieces with dependencies among them: a draft waiting on a decision, a decision gating a milestone, a milestone feeding a Quest. Written as cards, each piece carries its own address, owner, predecessors, successors, effort and computed float. Held as one deck, the pieces can be calculated together from a single Data Date — and then sorted by float for The Board, by owner for one person's own view, by week for The look-ahead, by stage for a wall of cards moved by hand (The Game Engine, Float, Critical Path).
It is load-bearing because the alternative — a board, a personal list, a spreadsheet, and a report, each maintained separately — guarantees that they disagree. Everyone then knows they disagree, nobody knows which is right, and a body spends its weekly hour reconciling representations of work instead of doing it. One deck removes the reconciliation entirely, and with it the quiet authority of whoever maintains the master list (Waste, The Deck Standard).
The floor is plain. A deck is text — one card per page — so a Cell can read its whole deck without a machine, and a register printed and sorted by hand is a complete instrument. What a person wrote on a card by hand is kept when the calculated fields are recomputed; the calculation owns the arithmetic, never the words (Screens and paper, Notebook form).
There are many decks, and the law is the same for each: a Cell's work, a season's Quests, a player's own cards. Decks of many Cells cohere upward by address rather than by copying, which is how a village's board and a world's board are one instrument at two altitudes (The plan of the whole).
