Waste
Activity that does not produce Throughput of The Goal — the complement of Value, and not a moral judgment on anyone.
Waste is defined structurally, not personally. It is work that consumes energy, time, attention, and material without moving the aim — and in doing so takes those resources from the chain that would have. That is why waste is worse than idleness: it does not merely fail to help, it actively obstructs the flow of value by occupying the path.
Seen through this lens, a great deal of what a civilization counts as production is waste, because it produces things that do not move any goal worth having. Naming that plainly is the first step of the redirection the field is for: cease the wasteful activity, and turn the capital and energy it consumed toward work that produces throughput of the Goal for the good of all.
It is load-bearing as the negative space that makes Value legible. A body that can only name what it values will keep adding; a body that can also name waste can subtract, and subtraction is where most improvement actually comes from. This is the Lean inheritance, carried here with its origin acknowledged and its definition raised: the customer is not the payer but the Goal.
The discipline attached to it is zero blame. Waste is sought in the set-up, not in the person — which is what makes it safe to point at, and therefore possible to remove. A body where naming waste costs someone status will simply stop naming it.
