Notebook form
The way of doing a practice with no agent at all, given on every lesson: a person with a notebook is a complete player.
Every practice in the deck carries one line saying how to do the same thing by hand. Not a lesser version, and not a consolation: the same practice, in the instrument almost everyone already has. If you have a notebook and three people, you have enough to begin.
It is load-bearing because it is what keeps the Game a free gift. A pattern that requires a paid account, a terminal, or a particular company's product is a pattern that has already excluded most of the people it claims to serve, and has quietly made a maker into a gatekeeper. So the rule runs the other way: everything an agent does for a person can be done by that person alone, slower; an agent makes the Way faster and wiser and is never required; no capability of the new civilization may depend on having one. Screens and paper both count, and where they disagree the paper with two signatures is the record.
A Player+ uses the notebook form in three ways. To begin, before any agent exists. To check, when a practice has grown complicated enough that it is worth asking what it would look like by hand. And to carry, because the person you pass the Flame to may have no agent and must still receive the whole of it.
It is also the floor beneath a bad month. If an agent fails, a service goes down, or the network is gone, the practice continues on paper and nothing essential is lost.
