Curriculum
A structured path of unfolding wisdom, knowledge, skill, and being across developmental stages and lifetimes.
A curriculum is an ordering — what comes before what, and why. That is all it is, and the ordering is the entire craft. Get it right and each thing arrives when the learner is ready to receive it and about to need it; get it wrong and the same material, taught with the same care, does nothing. The word has been degraded by association with the syllabus handed out on the first day, but the underlying problem it names is real and has to be solved by anyone who teaches anything.
The rule that governs it here is a warning against its own instinct. A whole curriculum at the door is a wall; one lesson when you are about to need it is a door. A path may be designed in full — and should be, so the designer knows the ordering is sound — but it is delivered one piece at a time, at the pace the road asks for. Just in time is the delivery discipline and The Zone Of Optimum Development is the pacing test: never overwhelming, never under-challenging. A curriculum that violates either is not rigorous, it is merely early.
The shape the corpus actually uses is three-layered: a Lesson is one thing worth learning, small enough to do in about ten minutes, taught so someone can correct you while you learn it; a Module is lessons composed on one shelf, serving one part of the play; and a journey is the path a person walks through them in the order their own play asks for, rather than front to back. The deck is a journey, not a pile — which is what turns a curriculum from a sequence into a path.
The canon names two curricula it has not written: the children's curriculum, and the guild progressions beyond the first few Ways. Both are flagged as gaps rather than drafts. Whoever builds one builds it by the Pattern and writes down what they built.
