Make-Ready Process

The work of clearing constraints so that work can be released — making the can true before anyone says will.

The look-ahead finds; make-ready removes. Each Constraint gets an owner and a date, and between one Heartbeat and the next that owner does whatever the removal takes: chases the decision, secures the material, books the hands, asks the question nobody had asked. At the next gathering each line is reported closed or still standing, with what it now needs. Nothing about it is clever; its power is that it is done every week, out loud, by name.

It is load-bearing because it is the difference between a plan that describes work and a plan that produces it. Committing to work that is not ready is the commonest way a body loses its own trust: the promise was sincere, the constraint was invisible, the date passed, and the gap is read as a failure of character rather than of preparation. Make-ready moves the failure upstream, where it is cheap. It is also what makes a Commitment a free act — a person asked to promise constraint-free work can answer honestly, and a person asked to promise blocked work can only guess.

It is run inside the ordinary rhythm rather than beside it: the look-ahead rolled at The Heartbeat, the log worked during the week, the released work committed to at the next. What a Cell cannot clear becomes a request to its home, and the same loop runs at every scale.
