Everything Is A Process

Whatever a body does more than once is a process — and a process can be named, written, taught, run, measured, and improved.

The twin of Everything Is A Project. A project has a beginning, an end, and a thing that did not exist before; a process is what a body does again and again, and it is where almost all of the actual work of living together happens. Welcoming someone. Deciding. Mending. Closing a season. Moving money. Saying goodbye. None of these is a project, and all of them are either done well the same way each time or done differently by whoever happens to be holding them that week.

Naming something a process is a small, unglamorous move with four consequences, and they are the reason the claim is load-bearing rather than obvious.

It becomes teachable. An unnamed process lives in one person's judgment and dies with their absence. A named one can be handed to a newcomer with a page.

It becomes improvable. You cannot improve what has no described form. Once a process is written, a defect in it is a defect in a thing rather than a fault in a person — which is how Every Defect Is A Gift becomes practicable instead of consoling, and how a Zero Blame Environment stops depending on everyone's goodwill.

It becomes shareable. A written process travels. A principle does not: two bodies can agree entirely on what matters and still do the thing in two incompatible ways. This is how one body's hard-won learning reaches all the others.

It becomes measurable. Where the work repeats, the gap between what was intended and what happened can be seen, and the flow through it can be watched for Waste and Constraint.

The danger the claim carries is bureaucracy, and the corpus answers it in one line: write only the vital few, keep each to a page, hold them all as Current Best Understanding rather than as law. The purpose is never a manual; it is that a body under pressure reaches for something of its own rather than for the habits of the old world.
