Tender
The Role, energized for a season, that keeps a Room's purpose, its language, its doors and its record — and rules nothing.
Every room needs someone who cares whether it is still the room it said it was. The Tender is that someone, and the word is chosen carefully: one tends a fire, a garden, a bar, a flock. The tending is maintenance and attention, not authority. A Tender keeps the room's purpose legible so that a gathering does not quietly become something else; keeps its language so that the words used there are handed rather than assumed; keeps its doors so that whoever belongs there can get in and whoever does not is not surprised at the threshold; and keeps its record so that what happened is findable afterwards.
It is load-bearing because rooms decay in a particular, predictable way when nobody holds them. The weekly gathering becomes a status update. The commons fills with things nobody wants. The chamber acquires regulars who become, without ever deciding to, its gatekeepers. Naming one seat responsible for the room's shape makes that decay visible early, and makes it somebody's honest work rather than everybody's vague irritation (Drift, Prune).
What keeps the seat from becoming a throne is that it is a Role and not a person, energized for a season and handed on, and that it carries no power over what the room decides. A Tender can say that is not what this room is for; a Tender cannot say no. The distinction is the same one the canon draws for its largest room: it is a room, not a ruler (Term Limits And Rotation, A role held forever quietly becomes a throne).
In practice the tending is small and steady: the door opened at the standing hour, the purpose read aloud when a newcomer arrives, the record posted afterwards, and one sentence at the turning saying how the room served and what it should become (Host, Keeper, The Two-Coordinator Rhythm).
