The Big Room

The room every body keeps where its whole world is visible at once — and it carries the same name at every level.

On the wall, the plan, up to date. On the table, the plans and specifications. On the rack, the tools, ready for anyone to take. In the room, the Board of the week, the parts beneath this body and the body it is part of, so that a group coordinates itself in one place and ties upward and downward without anyone standing at a centre.

The practice is old and was learned the hard way on very large works: the team that shares one room, one wall, and one current plan delivers; the team scattered across offices and inboxes does not (Last Planner System, Integrated Project Delivery). What is new here is the holofractal reading — every holon has one, and every one is called the Big Room. A Cell's Big Room holds its own Board. A community's holds its Cells' and its own. A world's holds its communities'. And this world is one small holon among others (Holon, HoloFractal, Holofractal Scaling).

Each one shows the same three things at its own scale: this body's own plan and record; what the bodies beneath it broadcast — position, condition, offers, requests, Quests; and the plan that comes back down from the body it belongs to (The plan of the whole). It is tended every Turn by the room's Tender. Its paper floor is an actual wall in an actual room; The HUD is the same wall when the room is a screen.

It is load-bearing because it is how coordination happens without command. Nothing on the wall is an order. It is a picture, kept current, that everyone can stand in front of — and standing in front of the same picture is most of what people mean when they say a group is aligned. LIØNSBERG Mission Control names what Actors do in this room, sensing the whole and broadcasting the plan back; the room itself performs nothing, because rooms never do.
