The Non-Attachment Clause
Written into the founding documents: our duty is not to any one system or approach. If a better one is identified, available and ready, we will gladly lay this one aside.
It is one sentence and it is the escape hatch from the failure that takes almost every body that ever did good work. An organisation formed to accomplish something acquires, quickly and without anyone deciding, a second aim: to continue. From then on the two aims are compared in every decision, and the second usually wins — quietly, and in the language of the first (Institutional Idolatry, A role held forever quietly becomes a throne, Drift).
The clause is the structural refusal of that, and its placement is what makes it work. It sits at the end of the acceptance criteria — so the same test sheet a body applies to everything else is applied to the body itself, and the body has said in advance what would make its own continuation the wrong answer (Acceptance Criteria for a New System, The Test of Belonging, The forging criterion).
It is load-bearing for everything around it. Without it the criteria are marketing: a list a body wrote and then satisfied. With it, they are a genuine test, because failing them has a stated consequence (Legitimacy, Every Defect Is A Gift, Second reader).
And it is of a piece with the rest of this corpus's posture — that what is offered is one prototype and not the thing, that only the aim is fixed and no instrument is, that anyone is free to start something else (LIØNSBERG Is A Prototype, Not The Eternal Essence, The Foundational Truth, Do Not Concretize the Absolute, Weaving vs. Starting New).
Its honest weakness is that it has three conditions attached — identified, available, ready to be deployed — each of which a body attached to its own survival can find unmet indefinitely. A clause like this is only as good as the willingness of the people holding it, and nothing structural enforces it (Discernment, Meaningful Objection, Necessity Of Accountability, Disbanding).
What it does regardless is set the expectation in the open, where anyone can hold the body to it later.
