The Score
The few numbers the whole Game counts the same way: kept as a share of made, flames passed, stories told, value created, and the time, energy, and attention invested.
The Score is not a ranking and there is no league table. It is the small set of counts that mean the same thing at every table, so that a body of many Cells can see itself: how reliable its word is, how it is spreading, how much it is telling, what it produced, and what it cost the people who produced it.
It is load-bearing because a body with no shared numbers cannot plan or help. Requests go unanswered because nobody knows who has capacity; help arrives where it is loud rather than where it is needed. Five counts, honestly kept, let a home read ten sheets in an evening and know where to send what. And keeping the counts few is itself the discipline: everything else a table wants to know about itself belongs in its Story and in line 13 of The Season Sheet, not in a metric.
How it is kept. Weekly on The Circle's Scorecard, seasonally on the sheet, and, where there is a wire, on The Board beside every other Cell's. Kept as a share of made is the one watched most closely. Flames and new Cells are counted by name. The Offering is counted in the unit the table uses, written once at the top. TimeEnergy is recorded on a player's own card and goes nowhere without their word. What the Score cannot say — whether a season was good, whether a person is well, whether the work mattered — is said in words, and the words are read first.
