An enormous share of humanity's accumulated skill, material, energy, and organizing genius is currently pointed at the capacity to kill. That capacity is not a separate economy; it is the same metallurgy, logistics, computation, chemistry, and engineering discipline that could be building water systems, housing, instruments, and clean power. Weaponry to livingry names the move of turning it.

The claim underneath is that the conversion is mostly a question of intent and arrangement rather than of capability. The knowledge does not need to be invented; it needs to be redirected. Ephemeralization is the reason the arithmetic works — more accomplished per unit of material and energy, generation after generation — so that a planet capable of assured destruction is, by the same token, a planet capable of provisioning everyone. Utopia or oblivion is not a slogan; it is a statement that the same capacity yields both and something must choose.

The move is not disarmament by exhortation. Guardianship is real, the capacity to protect is real, and The Threefold Capacity holds that creation, healing, and destruction are co-equal and must be held by the same trained hands. What converts is the purpose the capacity is organized around: a body armed for domination and a body prepared to protect life are not doing the same thing with the same tools, and the second does not require the first's scale.

At the size of a table this has an ordinary form. The Cell asks what its capacities are currently pointed at — its hours, its skills, its money — and whether any of it is aimed, however indirectly, at harm. Then it points one real thing toward life for a season.
