Trim Tab
The small surface that turns the large vessel — the leverage a single person or a single table actually has.
On a ship's rudder or an aircraft's wing there is a small hinged surface called a trim tab. Moving the great rudder directly takes enormous force. Moving the trim tab takes almost none — and the trim tab moves the rudder, and the rudder turns the ship. The whole vessel is steered by balancing the forces already acting on it rather than by overpowering them.
The figure answers the most common objection anyone raises at the door: what difference could I possibly make? The honest answer is that direct force against a civilization-sized system is hopeless, and that this was never the mechanism. Small, well-placed, sustained action inside a system that is already in motion is the mechanism. The question is not how much force you have; it is where you are standing.
It is load-bearing for the whole strategy. Three in a hundred is enough to turn a people. One Cell planting the next is the only mechanism by which anything has ever spread at the pace of trust. Propagate, do not scale — nothing grows by making the centre larger. Each of these is the same arithmetic: find the place where a little force moves a lot, and apply it steadily rather than heroically.
For a person, the trim tab is usually the nearest real thing: a Quest small enough to finish in a season and close enough to touch, a word kept, a flame carried to two or three. For a body, it is the constraint on the Critical Path — the one blockage whose removal releases everything behind it. In both cases the discipline is the same: find the small lever, not the big one.
