Working Exploration of Concepts Missing From English
An open and empty section of the Lexicon: a real hole, kept visible on purpose.
Every language carries and omits. Some of what this work most needs to say has no single English word, and the absence is not neutral: a people reaches more readily for what its language makes easy. So the Lexicon holds a section for the concepts English lacks — and, at present, that section holds a heading and nothing else.
Leaving it visible is the honest move. A named gap is part of the topology of the language: it tells a reader where the edge is, invites the person who has the missing word to bring it, and keeps the canon from implying that its current vocabulary is sufficient. Naming what is not yet written is a discipline the Pattern Language applies to itself as well, in its register of gaps and its backlog of patterns pending articulation.
The work the section is waiting for is already half-visible elsewhere. The canon reaches for borrowed and coined words where English fails it — existence-consciousness-bliss for the nature of ØNE, a word for consideration of all parties at once, a word for a boundary that filters without closing, verb forms for practices that English can only say as nouns. Each of those is a candidate for this section, and each needs the same care every word tool gets: given in one line, aimed beyond itself, tested for whether two people using it mean the same thing.
Until then the heading stands empty, which is more useful than filling it with something that merely sounds profound.
