Multi-Generational Co-Operation

Co-operation across generations as a design requirement — because what is being built is not for us, and can only be built by us, together.

The new civilization is built in service of all past, current and future generations of life and consciousness, in all times and places. Nobody now living is its beneficiary in the way people usually mean. That is the first claim, and it removes the ordinary motive from the work: a person is not building for their own retirement (Covenant Across Time · Ten Thousand Generations · Seats at the Table).

The practice of it is simple to state and hard to keep. Honour the wisdom and the contributions of the elders and those before — every present work stands on shoulders — and hand the flame on to the rising generations who will carry it past us (Lineage · Wise Eldership · Pass The Flame · Remembrance · Gratitude).

Out of it falls one of the most liberating recognitions in the whole Way, and it is worth stating exactly. The knowledge, technologies and techniques of any generation are built to be superseded and to pass away. What is actually being co-created across generations, and what remains, is the Spirit, the Intention, the Wisdom, the Culture and the Values. Their continuous improvement is the main act of co-creation; everything else is scaffolding, honoured and released (Spirit Precedes Pattern · LIØNSBERG Is A Prototype, Not The Eternal Essence · Everything Is Current Best Understanding · Compost · Prune). A body that knows its instruments are temporary can improve them without grief, and can let a beloved form go.

This is why the structures run on generational rails rather than annual ones: a generational contingency held so that the transformation can complete within one generation even if much fails (20 Year Generational Contingency); a formation beginning in adolescence and a full taking-up of citizenship at the threshold of adulthood, so that no child is born outside the pattern (Rites of Passage · The Three-Year Formation · Citizenship · Initiation); and a release each generation prepares for the next (Jubilee).

All of it rests on seeing life and consciousness as interexistent aspects of one body developing across millennia and worlds, rather than as successive owners of a planet (ØNE Body · InterExistence · Kinship).
