The Three-Year Formation
Three years of formation for each who comes — the named container within which a person is actually changed rather than merely informed.
A span, not a syllabus. The figure appears in the corpus's timeline as what is owed to every person who arrives: not an induction, not a course, but three years in which the Way is practised in company until it is lived. It is named as a container of the walk in the Pattern Language, sitting beside The Sovereign Path and The 144 Gates of Initiation as one of the structures the Patterns are walked inside.
It is load-bearing because it sets the honest cost of Education As Transformation. Form people, and people form organisations — but formation takes time, and a movement that budgets weeks for it will produce members who know the vocabulary and carry none of the pattern. The reference point the corpus keeps returning to is that the school preceded the cooperative by thirteen years; the order is not accidental. Three years is what this corpus commits to as the minimum serious container, stated so that plans can be made against it and so that nobody is rushed toward responsibility they have not been formed for.
It has to be held against The Walk is permissive, and the tension is real: some walk in days what others walk in seasons, and no Gate fires until ripe. The reading that holds both is that three years is what is offered and resourced, not what is required and enforced — the shape of a patient container rather than a probation.
In the Game a player does not experience it as three years of anything. They experience twelve seasons: Quests chosen and finished, words kept and broken and learned from, stories told, Flames passed. The formation is the residue of that, and the timeline is only the promise that nobody will be hurried through it.
