Resource the Work

Name the need concretely; invite contribution freely; record what flows gratefully.

Some work needs more than the people at the table already have — more time, more attention, more energy, or money. The move is three short disciplines, and each of the three adverbs is doing real work.

Concretely. A need stated in general — we could use support — cannot be met, because nobody knows what meeting it would look like. A need stated exactly — this much, for this, by this date, and here is what happens without it — can be met, partially met, or honestly declined, and all three outcomes move the work. Concreteness is also the safeguard against the slow drift by which a body starts raising resource in general rather than for something (Capital Subordinate To Purpose).

Freely. The invitation is an invitation. It does not lean on obligation, guilt, or the relationship it is spoken through, and it leaves a no fully available, because a contribution given under pressure buys the resource at the price of the trust (Consent, Sovereignty, Gift). What makes free invitation work at scale is not persuasion but visibility — the need placed where those who might answer are already looking (The Board, Ask for Help).

Gratefully. What came, from whom, toward what, and what it did. The record is the discipline that keeps resourcing honest in both directions: it lets a contributor see their gift land, it lets the body see what it is actually running on, and it makes the next ask credible. A body that receives without recording will be asked, sooner or later, where it all went, and will not be able to say (Gratitude, Proof-of-contribution, The Record).

Resource is not only money, and treating it as money is the commonest first mistake. Time, attention and energy are the scarcer inputs in most first seasons (TimeEnergy), and a great deal of what a body needs already exists somewhere in the Commons or in a neighbouring Cell, available for the asking rather than the buying (Mutual Aid, Fostering Ecosystemic Resource Flows).
