Economy

The orchestration of the flow, transformation, and exchange of Value in right relationship with the Source, the Earth, one another, and all beings.

An economy is not a separate machine bolted onto a society; it is one drive of a living body, and like any drive it is healthy only when integrated into the purpose of the whole. This is the move that makes the word usable here. Ask of any economy what goal it produces throughput of, and the answer is either a goal worth having or it is not. Where the goal is Heaven On Earth, the economy's job is to move what is needed to where it is needed, fast, and to stop consuming what it does not need.

Three things follow. First, price is not value: what is paid tracks what is recognized, and enormous quantities of real contribution go unrecognized and therefore untransacted, which is why making contribution visible is an economic act and not bookkeeping. Second, activity that produces no throughput of the goal is Waste, however busy and however profitable; the discipline is to cut it and redirect the freed energy. Third, value takes many forms — a service, a skill, knowledge, access, a place, an hour of care — so the accounting must be multi-capital or it will systematically undercount the things that matter most.

At the scale of a Cell this is not abstract. A Cell that cannot say where its money goes will be governed by whoever can. So the economy of a table is: what came in, what it was spent on, what was put in the middle, what went inward at the turning, and who can see all four. The waterfall gives the order, The asset lock gives the limit, Voluntary Tithing gives the flow inward, and Exchange and Gift name the two live modes of movement between people. Everything larger — bioregional commons, federated ledgers, a currency — is this same shape at another scale, and stands or falls on whether the small one was honest.
