Interoperability
The capacity of diverse things to work together as one without becoming the same.
Interoperability is the design property that lets sovereign local expressions — a person, a Cell, a community, a tool, a system — connect, exchange, and compose into larger working wholes while each keeps its own integrity, character, and way.
It exists to defeat two failure modes at once. Uniformity forces everything to be identical so that it fits, and kills the local knowledge that made each part worth having. Fragmentation lets everything be unique and gives up on fitting together, so nothing composes and every table relearns everything. The third way is shared pattern and agreed seams, with full diversity inside them: a thousand sovereign expressions that nevertheless work as one body.
This is why the Prototype is maintained as a Kit of Parts rather than a blueprint, and why any Instantiation can adapt freely to local reality without breaking its connection to the whole. Diversity is health; interoperability is what lets health circulate.
For a Cell in its first season the whole of it is concrete and small: use the cards as given and the standard is already met. The same card shape at every level, upper half common and lower half your own; the same week and the same turnings, kept by the sun; the same words on line one, translated freely with the line order kept; an address for every player and every line; numbers that mean the same thing everywhere; proposals as the way shared things change; and a word given is a word kept, or a gap learned from, without blame.
Everything above that minimum stays free. That is the whole bargain, and it is what makes federation possible without any centre existing to enforce it.
