The Veil of Finitude and Forgetting

Why each of the All forgot who it was — the fourth movement of the Story, and the canon's cosmological account of creaturehood.

ØNE desires to creatively experience itself in form. But to experience itself as a creature — as a single sovereign expression within an unfolding Cosmos — requires that the creature not remember being ØNE the whole time. Otherwise there is no experience of being a creature; there is only ØNE experiencing itself as itself. So a Veil is placed between the creature's local awareness and the non-local awareness of being of ØNE.

The canon is insistent on three points. The Veil is voluntary. It is placed by ØNE upon itself. And it is a gift: the condition that makes creaturehood possible at all. Creatures forget not as failure and not as accident, but as the structural condition of being creatures.

It is load-bearing because it removes shame from the entire architecture. Forgetting is not a fall; The Fall is the Story's fifth movement and something else — harm arising from the illusion of separation. Those who wander far accumulate veils, layered until the original spark seems gone; the canon's answer is the line the rest of the Field rests on: it is never gone. It is veiled. Divine Spark states the same thing positively; Remembrance is therefore un-veiling rather than acquiring; Awakening is recognition rather than achievement.

And it sets the task of this turn: to walk back through the Veil — knowing ØNE while remaining oneself. Union that does not dissolve the one who is uniting. The canon names this the cosmological foundation for everything that follows in the Story.
