The three seats

A seat for living systems. A seat for future generations. A seat for the Whole.

Three places at the table held permanently for those who cannot attend. The land and the creatures do not speak in meetings. The people who will live with this decision in eighty years are not born. And the whole body — beyond this room, this place, this generation — has no natural advocate in a room that is deciding for itself. Each of the three gets a chair, a voice, and a person whose job is to hold it (Living Systems Member, Covenant Across Time, Representation).

It is load-bearing because every one of these three is harmed by decisions made entirely in good faith. Nobody in the room intends to exhaust the soil, mortgage the next generation, or optimise this place at the expense of the wider body. They simply are not in the room, and what is not in the room is not weighed. A structural seat is the cheapest known correction for that (Omniconsideration, Stewardship, Guardianship).

It changes the texture of a meeting more than it changes any vote. Someone has to speak as the watershed and be taken seriously; someone has to ask what this looks like to a person in 2100. Asking those questions occasionally is a virtue; being obliged to ask them every time is a structure (Consent, Meaningful Objection, Decision Making).

Its discipline is that the seats rotate like any other and are not honorary. A seat for future generations held permanently by the founder's friend is decoration; a seat nobody rotates into is a seat nobody learns to hold (Term Limits And Rotation, Roles, A role held forever quietly becomes a throne).
