Turn the Season
The breath of the Game, in five movements — prepare, see from above, celebrate and rest, renew or release, choose again.
Two rhythms hold everything a body does. The Turn is the heartbeat, weekly. This is the breath, and it comes four times a year, at the solstices and the equinoxes. If a body learns only two things, it learns these two (Season, The turnings).
Prepare the turning. As the turning nears, complete what can complete, harvest what the season taught, and gather the count: commitments kept, value made, stories told, flames passed (Complete and Declare, The Circle's Scorecard).
Run the seasonal OmniSpection. Then see from above, together — not each alone afterwards, which is what makes it more than a report. Four questions: what did we set out to do, what actually happened, what did we learn, and what is ours to do next. The looking is inward, outward, backward and forward at once, which is why it is not simply a retrospective (OmniSpection, Look-back).
Celebrate and rest. Mark what was real — food, laughter, blessing — and then rest on purpose rather than by exhaustion. The fallow is part of the field, and a body that turns straight from counting into planning has skipped the part that makes the next season possible (Celebration, Rest And Regeneration).
Renew or release. Each member chooses again, freely: to continue, or to lay it down with grace. Freshly chosen beats silently assumed, and the choosing is what keeps a body from filling with people who are present out of momentum (Consent, The Way Out, Release).
Choose the new Quest. And then begin again, wiser (Choose a Quest, Quest).
The five are named in the canon as proto-Patterns rather than as finished wisdom: the same elements — gather, see, mark, choose — recur across the first gathering, the weekly turn and this one, and are expected to be articulated properly once enough bodies have played them (Proto-Pattern, The LIØNSBERG Pattern Language).
