Mandate

A legitimate and sacred charge to act on behalf of the Whole within a specific Domain, conferred by recognition of Authority and alignment with Logos.

A mandate is narrower than authority and larger than a task. It is what a body hands a steward when it says: this is yours to carry, on our behalf, for this while. Because it is conferred, it can be withdrawn; because it is a charge rather than a possession, it comes with an account owed back to those who gave it.

The distinction matters most where good people accumulate quiet power. Work drifts toward whoever does it; over a few seasons, doing becomes deciding and deciding becomes owning. Naming a mandate — its scope, its term, its reporting — is the simple instrument that keeps competence from silently becoming entitlement. Where mandates are unnamed, Impeachment has nothing to point at, Accountability has no measure, and Term Limits And Rotation cannot be applied because no one can say what is being rotated.

At the largest scale the canon speaks of the Cosmic Mandate: humanity's charge, as a maturing species, to co-create Heaven On Earth and beyond — stewardship of life, sovereignty honoured, co-creation with the Divine, and service rather than self-aggrandisement. That page is a visionary articulation rather than an operational one; read it for orientation, not for procedure.

In play, a mandate is usually one line in a Field of Agreements or a Roles chart: what this role holds, to whom it answers, and when it is reviewed. Small bodies can carry mandates in their heads for a season; the moment a second table depends on the first, writing them down stops being bureaucracy and starts being kindness.
