Money

A currency that does not reflect true Value — useful as a tool, parasitic as a measure, and never the thing it is taken for.

Money is a claim on other people's TimeEnergy, accepted because everyone else accepts it. That is its whole power and its whole limit. It is genuinely useful: it lets strangers trade without trust, it carries value across distance and time, and a Cell that refuses it on principle will simply pay its rent some other, slower way. Nothing here asks anyone to stop using it.

The problem is what happens when money is taken as the measure rather than the medium. Then activity that produces money counts as valuable and activity that does not counts as nothing — and most of what actually holds a world together (care, teaching, repair, attention, the tending of soil and children) falls straight out of the account. Worse, under debt-based issuance the stock of claims grows by interest while the real capacity to satisfy them does not, so the system requires expansion to stay upright. Usury is the name for that mechanism, and the reason the Lexicon calls money parasitic is precisely this: it feeds on throughput it did not produce.

So the discipline is to demote money rather than abolish it. Use it for what it is good at; refuse to let it stand as the score. Count Wealth in six capitals so the financial line cannot outvote the living one. Cap what capital may take (The asset lock, Compressed Pay Ratios) so that money cannot convert into control. Put contribution on a footing money cannot reach, through The Offering, Proof-of-contribution, and in time LUV. And keep the Gift alive beside the trade, because an economy with only one mode of movement has no way to carry what cannot be priced.

A Cell in its first season holds this lightly and practically: money in the middle of the table is welcome, hours in the middle of the table are worth the same, and the Circle says out loud where both went.
