None Of Us Until All Of Us

The refusal to arrive without everyone — the commitment that no one's flourishing is complete while anyone is left behind.

It is a statement about the shape of the destination, not about sequencing. Heaven is the way things are when everything is in right relationship; a condition enjoyed by some while others are excluded is, by that definition, not the thing. So there is no version of the Goal reached by a subset, and no honest way to declare arrival early. We win together, or not at all.

It is load-bearing because it closes the exit that every movement eventually finds: the moment when enough has been built for the people already inside, and the remaining work becomes optional. This phrase makes that moment a failure rather than a success, and it does so in advance, before the temptation arrives. It also disciplines the strategy — hospice the old world rather than fight it, build the new alongside so that everyone has somewhere to go — because a plan that leaves no somewhere for the people still in the old arrangement has already broken this.

In the Game, the immediate form is small and concrete. No one is turned away at the door. When a member is in danger, in body or in mind, the Circle acts first and records later. A Cell that reaches its Quest while one of its own is drowning has not had a good season. In the System, it is the reason the Commons is shared rather than sold, the reason the hundredth community inherits a seat at a commons the first ninety-nine built, and the reason the seats at the table extend to those who cannot speak for themselves — the living world and the unborn are among the all.

Its honest counterweight is the other half of the same law: no one is carried who has not chosen to walk. The commitment is to leave no one behind, never to move anyone against their own word. Both hold, and holding both is the whole difficulty.
