One Commons For All

The decision that everything co-created here — knowledge, technology, systems, infrastructure, facilities — is stewarded in common for the good of All, and the legal vessel that has to exist for that to hold.

The intent is simple and the consequence is not. If the work is for everyone, it cannot be owned by anyone: not by its makers, not by whoever funded it, and not by the body that assembled it. So all of it is held in common — intellectual property, technology, systems, infrastructure, facilities — and stewarded rather than possessed (Commons · Stewardship · Agency, not ownership · Knowledge as commons · Capital Subordinate To Purpose).

One commons rather than many is the load-bearing word. Many enclosures, each open to its own members, reproduce the pattern they were meant to replace — a person's access still depends on which one they happened to be admitted to. Intent alone does not hold it, which is why the canon says a legal commons has to be co-created: something that can actually own, that cannot sell, and whose purpose cannot be amended away by a future board under pressure. A commons is also not an absence of rules; the ones that survive are governed.
