Equal Opportunity For All

The claim that every person born should meet a real chance at their own unfolding — access as a condition of the world, not a prize for the lucky.

Equal worth is a statement about being; equal opportunity is a statement about conditions. Two children of identical genius, born into different places, do not meet the same world, and no amount of affirming their equal dignity changes what one of them can reach. The claim here is that the gap between them is a defect in the arrangement, not a fact of nature, and that it is the arrangement's job to close.

It is load-bearing because it is the test that keeps the whole enterprise from becoming a better world for the people already near it. A movement that spreads hand to hand through trusted relationships will, left alone, spread through the already-connected; the arithmetic that makes propagation work is also the arithmetic that reproduces the existing shape of access. Naming this is the beginning of counter-designing it — which is why the Seed's plan asks each person for the three they would most trust, with the explicit warning: not the famous, not the loud.

In the Game, the practical form is that the instruments cost nothing and require nothing: the Game is a free gift, a notebook and three people is enough to begin, a person with no agent is a complete player, a hand copy counts as much as a printed one, and the minimum ask is small enough that almost anyone can meet it. In the System, it is what the Commons is for — knowledge shared so that a solution found once anywhere becomes available everywhere — and what the value waterfall protects, by keeping the work alive and paying the people who do it before any return to capital.

Opportunity is not outcome, and the difference is deliberate: what is owed is the open road and the honest chance, not a guaranteed destination.
