Alignment

Conformity of a system, being, or act with Spirit and Logos.

Alignment is the positive term the whole vocabulary of failure is measured against: Distortion is alignment bent, Inversion is alignment reversed. It is not obedience — the thing being conformed to is an order that serves life, and the conforming is the being's own act.

It runs at three scales, and the canon works each of them. Inwardly: Attunement is the practice, The Daily Way the rhythm, and the Sovereign's aligned will the disposition. Between people: aligning commitments — what each person will do, said aloud, fitted to what the others are doing, so that a network of promises holds. Across a body: stacking up and aligning Quests so that many small real things compose into Throughput of The Goal rather than cancelling one another out.

That third sense is where alignment becomes structural rather than moral. Design To The Goal constrains all design by the Goal; the plan of the whole and the upper half of the card carry the same intent to every table; Every Quest Is A Project and resources applied only to value-producing, aligned Quests. Without it a thousand well-meaning Cells produce a thousand unrelated goods. With it they produce one direction.

The canon's guard against the obvious misuse: alignment is never imposed. Consent is required and revocable; a member has the moral obligation to object when they believe the body cannot achieve its aim; Meaningful Objection stops a proposal cold. Alignment that can only be produced by compliance is not alignment; it is the shape of it.
