Cycle

A loop of emergence, progression, completion, and renewal — the shape time actually takes, and the reason nothing here is designed to run in a straight line.

A cycle is a rhythm with a shape inside it. Where Rhythm names the recurrence, cycle names what happens between the beats: something begins, grows, comes to fullness, ends, and feeds the next beginning. Planting, growing, harvesting, resting. New moon to full moon to dark. Birth to death to the ground that the next life grows in. The loop is not repetition; each turn returns to the same place at a different altitude, which is why the spiral is the truer picture than the circle.

It is load-bearing because it defines completion. In a linear frame, work is a line that never arrives and a body is permanently behind; in a cyclical frame, a season closes, is counted, is celebrated, and is let go — and the next one starts clean. That single move is what keeps a body from accumulating an unbounded backlog of guilt. It is also why decay is not failure here: compost, release, the laying down of a Quest that did not work, the discrete death of a structure that has finished, are all parts of the loop rather than breakdowns in it.

In the Game, the primary cycle is the Season with its four faces — plant, grow, harvest, rest — closed by an OmniSpection in which a body sees itself from above rather than merely reporting. Beneath it sits the weekly loop of said, did, gap, learned. Above it sit the multi-year cycles and the spiral of the years. In the System, the same shape is the learning loop: discern, plan, do, check, adjust, at every fractal level, tightly coupled so that what is learned changes what is done next rather than being filed.

The cycles that a life turns on — the passages of birth, coming of age, bonding, parenthood, mid-life, elderhood, and dying — are named and largely unwritten, and the rites that would mark them do not exist yet.
