Sponsorship

The companion who walks beside a newcomer through their first season — a door, never a gatekeeper; a guide, never an authority.

When you share the Invitation and someone says yes, you become their sponsor. The role is small and real: walk them to their orientation, be reachable through their first gathering and their first ninety days, help them find the instruments and the doors when the way is unclear, and model the Way by keeping your own commitments. Nothing in it confers standing over them.

It is load-bearing because the first season is where people are lost. A person who receives the Seed, resonates, and then meets their first week alone will usually stop; a person with one reachable companion usually will not. Sponsorship is the human form of just in time — the right word at the moment it is needed, rather than a curriculum handed over at the door.

The sponsor line and the flame line are two lines, not one, and confusing them causes trouble. Your Carrier — the one who first passed you the Flame, and the Cell they came from — is written once and never changes; it is lineage, and it is history. The sponsor begins as that same person but is living companionship, and may shift, at the request of either party, at any time, for any reason or none, without stigma. Ongoing mutual consent governs every step, and that freedom is what keeps the bond clean rather than what weakens it.

Accountability runs in both directions. The sponsor shows up as promised, walks beside and never above, holds what is shared in confidence, and opens doors rather than closing them. The sponsee speaks honestly about where they are, keeps or openly renegotiates what they commit to, and says when the way is unclear instead of quietly drifting. Say what you will do; do what you said; learn from the gap — in both directions, the same discipline as the rest of the Game.

The guardrails are written because mentoring lines have gone wrong elsewhere: no authority over another's choices, beliefs, resources or relationships; never anyone's only door; and any concern about any sponsorship welcome through any door, received with care.
