Covenant

The sacred, reciprocal, often unwritten vow beneath a written Agreement — the bond of mutual love and co-creation between ØNE and All, and between those who walk together.

A contract allocates obligations; a covenant changes the relationship between the parties. The canon's distinction is that a Field of Agreements is made of voluntary covenants and never imposed law — which means the agreements at a table are not a bargain struck between opposing interests but promises made by people who have decided to be for one another.

It is load-bearing because agreements alone do not survive hard seasons. When circumstances change, a contract is renegotiated or breached; a covenant is where people return. This is why the canon speaks of a covenant stack — vows nested at each scale, from the person's own to the The New Covenant entered at the threshold of the Movement — and why Citizenship is described as a covenant relationship rather than a membership.

Its risk is the mirror image of its strength. A bond that runs deeper than writing can be used to hold people in place: you covenanted. The canon's guard is that covenant never overrides Sovereignty — entry is by assent, never imposition, and Withdrawal Of Consent remains available. A covenant that cannot be left has become a claim.

In play, a Cell usually makes one before it knows the word: the agreement, spoken aloud at the first gathering, about how these people will treat one another. Covenant Across Time extends the same bond forward to the seventh generation and backward to the ancestors.
