Epistemology
The study of how we know, what can be known, and how we come to know rightly — the discipline behind Current Best Understanding.
Epistemology is where this Field is least willing to bluff. Its central move is to make the status of every claim explicit. Everything below The Goal is current best understanding, held openly, expected to change; the why is invariant, every how is revisable. Current Best Articulation names a second gap — between what is understood and the words available for it — and Essences, Renderings, And Ineffable Referents holds both gaps open on purpose. Nothing here is called canonical or final.
It is load-bearing because it is what allows a body to be both committed and correctable. Navigating Towards Truth states the posture: Truth is approached, never possessed. We Do Not Know gives a person permission to say so out loud. Every Defect Is A Gift makes a miss into information rather than a fault. Retrospective and OmniSpection are the instruments; Decision Records keep the why so nothing is re-litigated by accident. Remove this layer and the system becomes either dogma or drift.
The canon also insists that knowing has kinds. Types Of Knowing names propositional knowing as one among several; Gnosis names direct, non-propositional apprehension; Discernment names the capacity to read what is true amid complexity; the emotions are treated as instrumentation rather than noise. A single-metric epistemology is refused for the same reason a single-metric decision rule is.
Two guards sit on it. Lessons are weighted by wisdom and truth, not recency — the last voice in the room does not set the frame. And provenance travels with every claim: a draft cited as a draft, a source named, the status stated.
