Holon

Something that is simultaneously a whole and a part.

A cell is a whole in its own right and a part of an organ, which is whole and part of a body. A person is whole and part of a Circle, which is whole and part of a Community, which is whole and part of the Living System of Earth, which is whole and part of all Creation within ØNE. Everything real is like this.

The canon's decisive line is diagnostic: a holon that forgets it is a part becomes a cancer; a holon that forgets it is a whole becomes a slave. Health at every scale is both at once — full sovereign integrity and full participation in the larger wholes. That single sentence carries more of this system's politics than most of the governance pages. It is why Sovereignty is never atomistic and Federation is never absorption; why Federations vs Empires is a line that has to be held; why a Cell that takes from the commons without contributing is named as The Parasite and a Cell that will not federate is failing in the other direction.

It is the unit the rest is built from. An order of holons is a Holarchy; a living whole composed of living wholes is a superorganism; each Instantiation of a Prototype is sovereign and simultaneously a part of the learning body of All; each part in a Kit of Parts is a whole capability and a part of the greater whole. Holofractal Omnifederation is the same insight turned into governance: complete wholes, federated from the bottom up, no member swallowed.

In play it is the shape of belonging: your Cell is entirely its own and entirely part of its Home, and neither claim weakens the other.

Open: The Concept Field judged Holon not load-bearing on the grounds that its Lexicon row is empty and Holarchy carries the meaning. The root page contradicts that judgment: it is developed, quoted elsewhere, and carries the cancer/slave distinction that nothing else states. Recorded as a divergence, not resolved.
