Tribe

Lineage as a body — belonging carried forward through ancestry, tradition, and a shared story, crossing every boundary of place.

A tribe is a people held together by descent and transmission rather than by address or craft. It carries a language, a memory, a way of marking birth and death, a claim on land it may or may not currently stand on. It is one of the three axes by which bodies compose — place, craft, and lineage — and the only one a person is largely born into rather than choosing.

It is load-bearing because the work is not the replacement of peoples with a single new people. A tribe that enters the field does not dissolve; it federates, keeping its own domain and membrane, and travels as itself. Traveling by tribe names the practical form: a lineage moving together through the transition, carrying its own rites and its own elders, rather than being distributed as individuals into new structures. Where this is honoured, the diversity of traditions becomes the raw material of a symphony; where it is not, unity becomes assimilation, and the Pattern has produced the very thing it exists to prevent.

In the Game, a tribe nests by the same law as any other non-geographic body: its Cells are Cells, its supercells are supercells, its sheets carry the same fourteen lines. In the System, it is an Integration Domain in miniature — a spiritual-cultural tradition within which the Pillars must be realized, not a market to be reached. The Pattern is a general form; a tribe supplies the specific application, and the translation runs both ways, since a tribe usually holds working answers to questions the written Pattern has not yet reached.

The tribe is also where the ancestors and the unborn are most naturally seated, which makes it one of the places where Covenant Across Time is already practice rather than proposal.
