Guild

A self-organizing body united by a shared craft and an ethical code — belonging by what you make rather than by where you live.

A guild gathers the people who hold a craft: the builders, the healers, the growers, the makers of instruments, the keepers of a tradition's music. Its bond is competence and the ethic that competence carries, and its authority over its members is the authority of a standard, freely accepted and revocable. It is a complete body like any other — domain, membrane, field of agreements, commons — and it federates by the same law.

It is load-bearing because place cannot carry everything. A community of ten thousand does not contain enough of any one craft to advance it; a guild that spans twenty communities does. This is how mastery is held and transmitted across a people rather than reinvented in each town: apprenticeship, the witnessed mark of a belt, the standard that makes one body's work usable by another. The lattice is explicit — guilds within every Action Domain steward each Pillar, so that every Pillar is mastered within every Integration Domain.

In the Game, a guild is a non-geographic body that nests by the same law as a place-based one; its members may sit in many different Cells and meet as a guild on their own rhythm. In the System, the guild is where Quality lives: the conditions of satisfaction a craft agrees, the review a craft gives its own, the curriculum a craft owes its apprentices. A guild is also where a craft's Commons is kept — the solved problems, the patterns, the tools that no single practitioner should have to rebuild.

A guild goes wrong in one direction and one only: when the standard becomes a gate held for the benefit of those already inside. The protections are the ordinary ones — rotation, transparency, accountability, and a door that opens in both directions.
